Colds are frequent and common occurrences in children as well as adults. Children can get 6-8 viral colds per year, and sometimes even more. With the different types of symptoms that may occur, it can be difficult to know how to treat a cold at home and when antibiotics are needed. Most colds are caused by viruses, and are rarely followed by bacterial infections. Even common concerns, such as sore throats or mild ear infections, do not require antibiotics to go away.
